BRUCE TOLLNER is a distinguished contract negotiator, praised for his diligent preparation and tactful presentation. A Certified Contract Advisor with the NFLPA and NBPA, Bruce plays a critical role in every aspect of REP 1, including Legal Counsel. He has a mastery of guiding both football and basketball clients through the pre-draft process, managing their careers and developing post-career plans. Bruce has exceptional corporate contacts, especially the major shoe and apparel companies, and an innovative mind for marketing and endorsement deals. Additionally, Bruce has established a strong presence in representing coaches on all levels with career planning, legal affairs and contract negotiations.
Bruce’s education and wide array of executive positions give him an invaluable understanding of law and business. He received his Business Degree from the Marshall School of Business at the University of Southern California in 1987. While at USC, he was a two sport athlete, competing in both baseball and crew. He also worked for the football coaching staff, assisting in many roles on and off the field.
Bruce proceeded to work for the Buffalo Bills front office, focusing on contract research, scouting and public relations. He earned his Juris Doctorate Degree from Southwestern University School of Law in 1991. Bruce served as Legal Counsel to the Chairman of the California State Board of Equalization and member of the California State Franchise Tax Board, where he honed his legal skills and grew his understanding of tax implications on a professional athlete’s life. Bruce opened his own law practice and sports management firm in 1992 and has been committed to representing professional athletes since that time.
A three sport athlete in high school, Bruce played quarterback and has been involved in football his entire life. His dad, Ted Tollner, has been a prominent coach for over forty years. Ted has succeeded as a college Head Coach at USC and San Diego State, and as an NFL assistant for the Bills, Chargers, Rams, 49ers, Lions and Raiders. He is considered one of the smartest and most diverse offensive minds in the game, and continues to provide guidance to our clients.
Bruce’s sense of community and firm belief in strong family values led him to become a Member of the Board of Directors for the American Lung Association of Los Angeles County. In his spare time, Bruce helped to fight lung cancer by educating children about the dangers of tobacco while raising funds to cure lung diseases. Bruce and his family are involved with various charities and volunteer organizations. Bruce and Ryan founded REP 1 Sports Foundation to combine personal philanthropic interests and efforts with REP 1 clients to help people with various needs around the world.
Bruce has run in marathons and earned a black belt in Tae Kwon Do. He and his wife Lisa have three children and live in Orange County, California.
